Ottawa is just stunningly beautiful and it is scientifically proven that its inhabitants are happier than average. The city has the highest standard of living in Canada, a very low unemployment rate and is therefore rather unsurprisingly ranked second worldwide in the Numbeo quality of life index 2015. In contrast to Toronto and Montreal you will barely find skyscrapers, but rather precious buildings dating back to earlier centuries. Especially Parliament Hill is a must-see. The whole complex looks so majestic: The Peace tower is 92 metres high and visible from almost every part of the city; the Library of Parliament serves as a Canadian icon today. In the city centre you can visit the National Gallery exhibiting paintings of Picasso and El Greco. The capital city also stands for its Open-Air parades, concerts and festivals in which you should definitely participate when you are around. The most popular ones are the “Tulips in the Capital” parade in May, the International Music Festival and International Jazz Festival during summertime. Should you be interested in sports, the city also has a very successful ice hockey team playing in the National Hockey League. So, what about watching a match of the Ottawa Senators during your stay?

The American bus operator Greyhound offers many routes which take you to Ottawa for little money. You can start, for instance, in Montreal or Kingston. Cross-border connections from the USA to Canada are of course also possible. The main station served is Ottawa, ON - Central Station.
