Arda Tur is a cheap option you might consider if you don’t have any other choice. The lounge at the Istanbul bus station is not a good example of cleanliness, but to be fair, other bus services there seem to follow similar standards. The service was not very organized — they moved us from one bus to another to make room for some boxes they were transporting along with passengers. Because of that, a couple traveling to Greece lost their luggage. I hope they have found it or been refunded. The drivers don’t speak English, which is understandable for domestic travel within Turkey, but for international transfers, I believe at least a minimal level of English is necessary — and training drivers for that wouldn’t cost much. There were very few rest stops for passengers, though there were a few extra stops for the driver, such as when he needed to leave a bottle in his car. Also, drivers smoke and use their mobile phones while driving — sometimes both at the same time. It’s unclear what the company does about this, despite having a camera installed in front of the driver’s seat. A Turkish mystery indeed
