Formed in 1985, Citylink is a major long distance express bus operator in Scotland, Ireland (as Irish Citylink) as well as England (as Stansted Citylink). The company was created as a subsidiary of the Scottish Transport Group, and since 2005 has operated as a joint venture between Stagecoach and ComfortDelGro. Citylink covers an extensive network that connects rural highland communities to major cities, with more than 200 destinations in Scotland and carrying over three million passengers each year.

Booking your trip at least two days in advance can help up save 20% or 40% off the cost of normal fares. CityLink also accepts several discount cards, such as a Young Scot Card, which lets people aged 16 to 18 (or 19 to 25) travel at cheaper rates, possibly saving up to a third off single fares. Disabled people who are over 60 years of age can qualify for a National Entitlement Card for free travel with Citylink.

CityLink operates 19 routes between the Scottish cities of Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee, Stirling and Inverness, and connects these larger urban areas to smaller communities. The company also offers direct bus connections from Scotland to Northern Ireland with the ferry connection between Belfast and Stranraer, and has routes in the Republic of Ireland between Dublin, Cork, Galway, Clifden and Shannon.
