Lyons is the third largest city in France and is regarded one of the most attractive metropolises in the world. The former capital of the Gauls has a lot to offer for visitors, including countless museums and galleries, the Place des Terreaux, the Basilique de Notre-Dame de Fourvière and the silk workshops in the Croix-Rousse. Thanks to these and many other sights, the city’s historic centre was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1998. When visiting Lyons, you should take a walk along the two rivers, the Rhône and the Saône. Afterwards you can enjoy a delicious meal in one of the many Michelin star restaurants owned or founded by famous chefs such as Paul Bocuse, Pierre Orsi and Mère Brazier. Slightly more down-to-earth are the many typically Lyonnais restaurants called bouchons, where local specialities such as cheese and wine are served. If you fancy some shopping, then you should stroll through the little alleys surrounding the Carré d’Or – the Golden Square. A trip to Lyons is highly recommended in early December when the Fête des Lumières is held: Every household participates in the festivities by putting candles along the outsides of every window. This creates a unique and highly impressive atmosphere.

The city of Lyons can easily be reached by bus from many French as well as international cities. Coach companies such as Eurolines, FlixBus, isilines and OUIBUS offer bus trips to Lyons stopping at either Lyons - Gare SNCF de Lyon Perrache or Lyons Central Station. Since both of these coach stations are located in the city centre, your sightseeing tour can start straight away.
